Emergent Literacy

Emergent literacy highlighted children's natural tendencies to develop literacy concepts through immersion. Children begin to develop written language knowledge from the moment they are first exposed to reading and writing at home during their preschool years, possibly from the time of birth.

  1. This is an interesting piece of information especially the part about developing written language "possibly from the time of birth". I've heard of developing language skills by reading to fetuses/babies in the womb. I'd like to learn about the development of written language from birth, though.

  2. What I love most about the early childhood stage is that the children are like sponges. Their brains are growing cognitively as such a rapid rate. It's amazing.

The difficult part is just getting the families to take the time to actually expose the child to those things. All they have to do is "talk." Sometimes I want to beg my parents .... "Pleeeeease! talk to your child! About anything!"
