Getting to Know You

Getting to Know You

Getting to Know You is an interesting and fun activity for kids. I used to do this activity for the first day of the school year. Instead of having a silent class for the first day, it turns out to be a noisy with learning class. I know young ones will really enjoy doing this activity. To tell you the truth, working on this activity is not that fun for me compares to the young ones. The kids won’t mind sharing every single thing they know about. For us adults, it will not that fun as the kids because we are more personal. I notice that for some kids, it is hard to reveal something about themselves. I don’t know if this is culture or just part of the kid’s life. For us teachers, we have to be more careful doing this activity with our ESL students as we know culture is also play an important role in the child’s learning. We can be more careful about what kind of questions we are going to put on our activity.

This is a partially online course which will be making it hard on us to get to know each other well. I am happy we are doing this activity in this class so it gives us chances to know each other. I want to know each and everyone of you as I will know my partner. I can’t wait to see the end product of our project so that way we can learn something about each and every one of us.

  1. I haven't attempted this "Getting to Know You" activity with my Kindergarteners. It is always "All about Me." I like how you mentioned about being careful with the types of questions a teacher asks. As a teacher, sometimes I feel the need to ask more interesting and exciting questions, not thinking about the cultural implications they may have. Sometimes playing it safe with general questions might be the best route.

  2. Kone,
That is interesting. I will definitely look it up. This is a short ad that I am placing in this blog. This is going out to any of my classmates who does not have a partner for an interview. Desperately seeking a partner to interview. If you are interested in getting to know me...you will be glad you picked me because I am a "nut-case". Seriously, I am not kidding.

  3. I agree that this activity "Getting to You know Better" is a fantastic activity that we can all do with our kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students. Anyways, anything you do with kindergartners is always interactive and fun. However, I also think that this is a great activity for adults too. I first met my partner for this activity Katrina Baza in one of my classes last semester but I don't know her that well. While doing this activity, I have found so many wonderful things about her and her family. With all the information I have gathered, I feel like I have known her for a long time.

I can be your partner if you want. I will have to ask Dr. Rivera tomorrow during class if it's alright that I will be also be your partner. It's going to be a lot for me but I am more than welcome to have you as a partner.
