Class Session

I like today’s class session. I enjoyed learning different ways to say hello in different languages. I’m planning to create a poster using the hand out that Dr. Rivera shared to us and post it in my classroom. That way, my students and I can practice greeting one another from different languages. At the same time, we are able to recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of other language.

I also enjoyed our discussion on Chapter 2 Second Language Acquisition and our class activity "Jigsaw". I wasn't able to read Chapter 2 so through everyone’s well-organized presentation, I was able to gain knowledge and had a better understanding of language acquisition. Awesome job everyone!

  1. Kumusta Jenny,
I too feel that our discussion on Language acquisition was very interesting. Although, I have heard of some of the theories but not quite understand it, today I got closer to a better understanding.

  2. I thought the jigsaw was really fun to do. I really want to do it with my class. I should be more determined on implementing it ^_^

  3. I learned a lot too in class tonight through everyone's presentation. I am not able to finish the reading but through all the presentations I gain lots of understanding about chapter 2.

  4. Bula Jenny,
Bula means hello in Fijian (Fiji). I had so much fun in class today. I wasn't able to complete reading the chapter too but I was so glad that we did the jigsaw activity because I had a better understanding of the chapter now. I wanted to say "Haisa hachigechig" thank you everyone in Woleaian for your well-organized presentation of the different sections of the chapter.

Jenny, I am going to blow up the different language greetings on a larger poster and use it in my classroom someday. Have a great and safe weekend!:)

  5. Beauty, Fast Copy does that. I will add the goodbye greeting too. I will share it to everyone as soon as I'm done.

  6. Hi Jenny! The activity of saying "Hello" in different languages was fun! IT made me realize that, this school year, I have made little attempt in learning my students languages, nor have I asked them to share their language in my class. I've been so busy focusing on drilling letter identification, number sense, and blending c-v-c words that I never took the time to ask them about them.

Tonight's activity was a good reminder.
