My principal has a mantra that he repeats often: "The one who is doing the talking is the one doing the learning." As cheesy as that sounds, I think it is quite true. When students talk, argue, express opinion, and explain, this can greatly help us gauge where they are in their learning. And it should be only a matter of time and practice when what is said can be what is written. :)
